This is my first foray into the world of WordPress.
I have been blogging on the free Blogger platform for 6 months now. I don’t have a technical background and, honestly, have been afraid of WordPress. I finally got up the nerve, and set this blog up.
First, I had to decide on hosting. I chose Bluehost and so far I have been happy with my choice. The WordPress installation via their Fantastico service was easy and painless. I had previously tried a different popular hosting service but had a lot of trouble with the WordPress installation even though it was supposed to be automatic.
Bluehost offered me 1 free domain name with my 1 year registration (and it will be free for as long as I continue hosting at Bluehost). However, I had picked up a few other domains over the past few months through GoDaddy. Not a problem! Bluehost allows me to host unlimited domains on my one hosting account. At this beginning stage, account size and transfer rates are not something that I am worried about, but I am confident that Bluehost will be able to work with me as the need arises.
I am taking this one step at a time. What I thought would be difficult worked out ok.
- I set up my hosting account at Bluehost.
- I set up a few emails associated with my account.
- I installed WordPress using their Fantastico service.
- Using the help center articles at Bluehost, I pointed the nameservers of one of my GoDaddy domains to Bluehost, and set it up as an “add on” domain to my hosting account.
- I set up a few emails associated with my “add on” domain. (did I mention that Bluehost makes it very easy to integrate these emails with a mail client like Outlook or Apple Mail?)
- I installed WordPress on my “add on” domain.
And here I am.
One word of advice. This whole process generates several usernames and passwords. Good recordkeeping is a must.
