Paid Reviews

Yesterday’s Wall Street Journal had an article on paid reviews. The story is about how one company/blog (Apogee Search) increased its readership by using paid reviews.

My mind immediately jumped to the conclusion that the blog was writing paid reviews when in actuality the blog was HIRING others to review it. The result was increased mentions on the internet which translated to a higher search engine ranking. At about $12.50 per review this type of marketing only used up a small chunk of Apogee Search’s marketing budget. (And see, they even get a free mention on this blog!)

Companies like Pay Per Post and Review Me are the matchmakers that set up reviewers and reviewees. Taking on either one of these roles is something to consider as a blog grows in popularity.
