Problems Moving from New Blogger to WordPress 2.2.2

I tried everything. First, the obvious. I went to Manage, Import, Blogger. This took me to a screen asking me to authorize. Clicked and was taken to a screen stating “This website has not registered with Google to establish a secure connection for authorization requests.” - Here there is a button to grant access. Clicked it. Then I was taken to a screen saying “Trouble Signing In” and “Restart” with a button to clear account information. Clicked. And then back to the authorize screen. Just a big loop.
I searched everywhere including the WordPress.org forums. I contacted my host about the possibility problems with SSL settings. I tried to do the import at a hotspot, thinking maybe it was something with my wireless network. Still no dice.
I even tried a popular workaround. Import from blogger to the free wordpress.com platform and then import from wordpress.com to my site. Guess what? Same message - same loop. Well, at least I know that the problem was not with my host.
So I emailed support at wordpress.com, and the reply was that apparently this is a known issue. Google changed something and the wordpress guys are trying to work around. Bottom line: import from blogger isn’t working (I’m guessing that wordpress 2.2.2 is having the same issues as wordpress.com).
OK, now my other blog is in limbo since I am all set up on wordpress and ready to go but all my content is still at Blogger. Irritating.
But even more irritating is all the hours I spent, and all the emotional angst I experienced trying to figure out a problem that they already know about. Perhaps a prominent post somewhere on the wordpress.com or wordpress.org website. An import function “out of order” post.
It would have made a world of difference.
