I found your blog from Problogger post. It was useful stuff to read. I’m writting about studying in U.S. and process associated with that. Just wondering, why did you decide to move to wordpress from blogger. I just srated blogging 2 months back. Just wondering, if I can continue with that, or more create a seperate domain.

    Raghuram,
If you are into blogging for the long term or for business purposes, most experts recommend having your own domain. I started on blogger with a mysite.blogspot.com address.

Then I acquired my own domain and forwarded it to my blogger blog. So, whenever anyone typed in mysite.com they would see my blog at mysite.blogspot.com. This method did not require any independent hosting and was a good intermediary step for me.

I was tempted to leave it there because I found blogger much easier to use than WordPress. But I also found it somewhat constraining as I wanted to add some pages and have my comments appear with my posts. Plus I wanted to leave the door open for future customization and growth.

I have spent a lot of time learning about WordPress - my background is not technical. And once I felt confident that I could move the blog, I took the plunge. I also wanted to move before the blogspot blog got too large - just in case I ran to problems or lost posts, comments, data, or any other components.

I am still learning and customizing - I guess a blog is always a work in progress.

    Thank you for commenting!
